On January 17, 5-year-old Syrai Sanders and her 6-year old classmate, Logan Braatz, were walking to their school bus stop in Atlanta when they were attacked by a group of dogs.
Logan was tragically killed in the attack, according to Fox 5, but Syrai was able to survive despite her serious injuries. The dogs’ owner has since been charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.
This week, Syrai was helped along her road to recovery by none other than former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal, who bought brand new furniture for her family’s home during a surprise visit.
Syrai’s family told Fox 5 that Shaq has been involved with the family since the attack.
The 45-year-old has made philanthropy work a priority, even during his 19 seasons in the NBA; when he retired in 2011, the Bleacher Report deemed him “one of most charitable players in the league.”
