McLaren’s Super Series Unleashes the 720S

McLaren Super car orangeMcLaren’s Super Series is making its long awaited return with one of the British imprint’s most incredible hypercars to date: the 720S. Billed as the manufacturer’s very first second-generation vehicle, the 720S — unveiled today at the Geneva Motor Show — eschews the MP4-12C inspiration of its predecessors in favor of a bevy of upgrades, 90% of which are considered to be “all-new” by McLaren.

Design-wise, the 720S is a clear followup to the 650S, but offers a number of subtle improvements, including the likes of a carbon fiber superstructure and, as WIRED notes, modified doors and roof cut-outs that make the car much easier to get in and out of.

Performance is what truly matters, though, and the 720S improves on its predecessor in every way. A brand new 4-liter twin turbocharged V8 offers 710 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque and, coupled with a weight reduction compared to the 650S, offers acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds and from 0 to 124 mph and 0 to 186 mph in just 7.8 seconds and 21.4 seconds, respectively. And the top speed? A whopping 212 mph.Get up close and personal with the vehicle over at McLaren’s website and stay tuned for info on pricing and availability.
